Town of Parker News

In response to feedback, and Town Council’s commitment for reinvestment in downtown, we are taking steps to better manage parking and improve access to businesses and special events in the area. A new parking program to implement time-limited, on-street parking in Downtown Parker will begin on Monday, May 8.
Project Summary
The new parking program is based on recommendations from the Town’s Downtown Parking Study and Plan, which included an analysis of how parking is currently utilized in the downtown area. Implementation strategies were developed to address a number of critical elements, including:

Near-Term Goals
* Develop parking policies, including managing existing public parking
* Conduct public outreach/education
* Update downtown parking standards
* Seek shared parking opportunities
* Develop improved signage

Project Status
The Downtown Parking Study and Plan was presented to Town Council in March, and parking recommendations were discussed. Town Council reviewed recommendations and directed staff to implement the following:

* Parking with Two-Hour Limits: Mainstreet, Victorian Drive, Pikes Peak Drive and Pikes Peak Avenue

* Effective Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Given feedback from the community, the Town will not move forward with time restrictions on any public parking lots at this time.

Signs will be posted in designated areas for two-hour parking beginning May 8. The Neighborhood Services Division of the Parker Police Department will provide parking compliance and enforcement through a public education campaign. Time-limited parking will help ease congestion, increase availability of parking for shorter visits and encourage those with plans to stay longer to park in one of the many free public lots.

Upcoming Public Meetings
The Town will continue public outreach for the Downtown Parking Study and Plan through June. Upcoming activities include a public presentation and public hearings, all at Parker Town Hall:

* Town Council Study Session - May 8; 5:30 p.m.

* Planning Commission Meeting - May 25; 7 p.m.

* Town Council Meeting - June 5; 7 p.m.
